British Values

In accordance with The Department for Education we aim to actively promote British values in Early Years settings to ensure young people leave nursery prepared for life in modern Britain. Children are encouraged to regard people of all faiths, races and cultures with respect and tolerance and understand that while different people may hold different views about what is ‘right’ and ‘wrong’, all people living in England are subject to its law.

The Key Values are:

  • Democracy
  • Rule of law
  • Individual liberty
  • Mutual respect
  • Tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs

At Chuckles we promote British Values in ways that are suitable for very young children. For example, we encourage children to make their own choices, we talk about nursery rules and being kind to one another, we encourage children to take turns and listen to one another and we celebrate and learn about various festivals and customs from different faiths and cultures around the world.

This term the children have been putting British Values into practice by:

  • Learning to care for their environment and living things
  • Voting on a name for Chuckles Parent Volunteer Group and being involved in designing a logo
  • Celebrating the royal wedding and learning about the royal family
  • Inviting elderly local residents to a tea party at Chums out of school club
  • Taking turns to speak and listen

If you have questions about British Values and what your child is learning at nursery, then please speak to any member of the Chuckles team.
